MAster's THESIS

One of the artifact types that fascinated me the most while working at Fort Union were the metal arrowheads. Since the fill was screened during salvage excavations, the nearly 100 arrowheads recovered were unprecedented for a trading fort on the Northern Plains. My questions focused on understanding how and why a Native American hunting technology was so prevalent at a site that existed to replace it. This project shows how archaeological collections in museums can be used to challenge interpretations of history.
